Tim Hartman - Cold Frames

Tim's project was to design and build cold frames.  Cold frames are used for intermediate staging to "harden" plants coming from the greenhouse before planting in the garden beds.  The cold frames have three levels in each of the three compartments.  Each lid has an automatic riser which opens the lid when the temperature is too warm and closes when the temperature falls.  This prevents the new plants from overheating in the sun and frost at night.

Tim designed, financed and constructed the project in less than three months.  Construction day was very active with scouts and adults working together to finish the project in nine hours.
